This tool is based on data retrieved directly from the Sigfox backend, and is used to give a theoretical prediction on the level of coverage at a given point on the map. These measurements are the same ones used internally and are therefore characterised by a relatively high degree of reliability. Despite this, the actual level of coverage can in some cases differ from what the tool says, which can be the case when a point sits directly between two different levels of coverage. This is the most fundamental degree of coverage which indicates that your Sigfox devices will be able to reach the network when placed in outdoor environments with no wall materials to bypass. Ultra-Narrow Band technology has a very long range which is one of the key selling-points by using Sigfox. For purposes such as monitoring your crops or establishing a monitoring system at a protected nature reserve, you can be certain that your Sigfox devices will be covered by this coverage degree.
This degree of coverage indicates that devices placed indoors, not far from a window or door, will be able to reach the Sigfox network. Therefore, solutions such as monitoring open office landscapes, smoke alarms, CO2 and temperature sensors, etc. are suitable for this degree of coverage. Please note that your devices are presumed to be placed freely and openly, without being covered or otherwise concealed in a drawer or refridgerator.
This is the absolute strongest degree of coverage which allows you to connect to the Sigfox network almost regardless of how well you conceal your device within your house or building. This type of connection is necessary for solutions in which the transmitted radio messages need to penetrate several layers of wall material. Examples can be found within facility management, where hidden pipes and power monitors are under surveillance.
